10 Tips That Will Help You Sleep Comfortably The Next Time You Fly!

Some lucky folks can sleep standing up, simply doze off easily upon take off or just buy a business class ticket to sleep on comfortable extendable seats. But for most people, quality in-flight sleep is a struggle. And that can lead to exhaustion and several nights of playing catch-up when you arrive at your final destination.

But what about the maddening sound of wind and jet engine noise that you experience when you fly, especially on a long overnight flight? It might not cause you to commit mayhem, but it affects you in ways you might not imagine, causing stress, fatigue and loss of sleep.

We at AirWhizz have come up with a list of travel hacks that can help you doze off in a jiffy the next time you fly.

1.CHOOSE YOUR SEAT WISELY

Your seat location could be one of the most important factors in how well or how poorly you sleep on a plane.

Try to get a window seat if possible. It will give you something to lean against and get you out of the way of other folks in your row, who won’t have to make their way over you each time they need to use the bathroom. You’ll also have some control over the window shade.

2.CARRY THE RIGHT GEAR

Investing in the right sleeping gear can go a long way when it comes to sleeping on flights.

Here is a list of items that can keep you comfortable while sleeping on a flight –

  • Travel pillow
  • Earplugs
  • Noise cancelling headphones
  • Sleep Mask

Other than the gear mentioned above carry a magazine or book to relax your mind before you doze off. If you are not into reading, carry a playlist of soft and soothing music on your phone to cancel out the noise coming from the engine and people chatting on the plane with your noise cancelling headphones.

3.PACK LIGHT

If you have two full-size carry-ons, one might end up under your feet, limiting your legroom and making it harder to sleep. Instead, pack lighter so you can fit everything into a single bag.

Keep a few small necessities near the top of the bag — a book or magazine, a snack, a bottle of water. Before you stow your bag in the overhead compartment, pull out the important items that you’ll need during the flight and put them in the back of the seat in front of you.

4.WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHES

While you may be a big fan of dressing up to look decent when flying, wearing loose clothing in the air will help you sleep better.

Comfortable pyjama’s might not be the best choice to wear in public, wearing sweatpants or sportswear will keep you comfortable. Carry a shawl and wear thick socks to make you feel warm and cosy to get comfortable sleep on board.

5.POWER DOWN

Passengers today have a wide range of options to choose from when it comes to in-flight entertainment. It may seem like a good idea to pass your time by watching movies on your screen but it’s a bad idea if you want to catch up on some sleep while flying.

The light produced by seatback TV screens, mobile phones, tablets, or laptops has an adverse effect on your sleep because according to medical facts, light rays coming from screens melatonin release, making your body feel tired but you mind active, giving the feeling of insomnia.

6.SKIP THE CAFFEINE

Especially on a daytime flight, where even the view out the window can be a distraction, you’ll find it much harder to sleep if you have caffeine flowing through your veins. Avoid the temptation to have a cup of coffee or a soda before boarding and stick to water or juice when the drink cart comes around.

7.RECLINE YOUR SEAT – BUT BE COURTEOUS

On a night flight, expecting someone not to sleep is like asking them to put down their window shade during a flight over the Himalayas. Ideally, everyone has the same idea and seats will tip backwards soon into your flight.

Reclining your chair will help ease some of the pressure on your lower (lumbar) spine. With less pressure on your back, it’ll be easier to fall asleep.

However, you should always look behind you to make sure the passenger behind doesn’t have a coffee cup or is resting his /her head on the tray before pushing the button to put your seat back.

8.AVOID ALCOHOL

If you are on a vacation, the thought might be tempting but booze won’t help you sleep soundly.

Alcohol will initially promote sleep, but it’s usually only in effect for three to four hours, and then you can’t get back to sleep. On top of that, you might wake with a headache and feel thirsty.

9.DONT EAT TOO MUCH

Try not to eat a meal within two hours of trying to sleep.

Also, watch what you eat because overeating or having fatty foods might feel uncomfortable and make it harder to catch some sleep. Eating large quantities of fatty foods can also lead to changes that cause blood to clot more easily, something you want to avoid if you’re on a long flight.

10.SET AN ALARM

The worst part of sleeping is waking up. It’s even worse on a plane when you’re waking up to fluorescent lights, luggage carousels and sunshine so bright you can practically hear it.

If it’s a long flight, consider setting a watch or cell phone alarm for 45 minutes before you land. That gives you time to go to the restroom, gather your gear, tie your shoes, watch the approach to your destination. Ask the flight attendant to pour you a cup of coffee and walk off the plane fully awake.

Technology That Will Transform The Way We Fly In 2018!

Leaving on a Jet Plane is about to become faster, more efficient, and way more comfortable!

Taking a flight can be a tough ordeal even for the most seasoned travellers! Cramped seats, crowded airports and the time it takes to get through all the checks is annoying, to say the least.

The future of air travel, however, looks a lot more promising. The advent of new technologies is making advances that even a decade ago were unfathomable. They will redefine the way we experience flying.

We’ve all heard the big catchphrases –  Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Big-Data and Internet Of Things (IoT).

But what do they mean and how do they affect the way we fly?! Truth is, we are only scratching the surface of their potential and many more benefits are yet to be realized.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how these tech breakthroughs are being applied in aviation and in enhancing Passenger Experience (PAX).

1.ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is already being embraced by industry to improve the passenger experience. Today airlines and airports use Chatbot’s with AI technology to communicate effectively with passengers.

AI allows simple queries to be handled swiftly, freeing up customer service professionals to tackle more difficult issues effectively.

Beyond Chatbots, AI technology has the potential to revolutionize the travel experience. Imagine having access to a 24-hour personal travel assistant who can predict your travel choices, knows your preferences and can create a personal experience for you.

AI travel assistants are the future!

2.REMOTE SENSING TECHNOLOGY

Turbulence is the largest cause of injuries to passengers and crew. And for nervous passengers, it’s a nightmare.

Today, pilots use multiple sources of information to manage turbulence inflight, from weather radar and charts to information from other pilots and air traffic controllers.

To reduce the risk of turbulence-related injuries, Airport authorities are developing a turbulence sharing information platform containing real-time, aircraft-sensed turbulence reports in collaboration with multiple airlines around the world.

On top of that Aircraft manufacturers are developing a new technology that emits pulses of laser lights from the plane’s nose which will measure the wind speed along the direction of the laser allowing pilots to avoid turbulence while flying.

3.BIOMETRICS FOR SECURITY AND CHECK-IN

A seamless and convenient experience through the airport terminal is slowly becoming a reality thanks to biometric technology.

International Air Transportation Authority’s “One ID” project is rapidly moving travel towards a day when face, iris, or fingerprint recognition will provide the key to a smooth travel experience.

One ID works by creating a match between a unique biometric characteristic, a passenger’s passport and their flight booking. Once the match has been made passengers can then proceed through the terminal checkpoints from the security to the plane without having to show travel documents.

Recently the Airports Authority of India announced that they will be introducing Biometric boarding system at 3 Indian airports (Varanasi, Vijayawada and Kolkata) for the convenience of the passenger. This system will make security check-in smoother and quicker by securely identify travellers through Aadhaar number, passport or other documents.

4.BLOCKCHAIN

Blockchain is a recent invention with immense potential for widespread application and one that airport authorities believe offers benefits for passengers and airlines.

Only a few people are aware of this but, from the moment you search online for an air ticket to the time you arrive at your destination, the airlines you are travelling with is just one of the various partners involved in the aviation value chain. Each member of that chain takes a profit margin.

Organisations around the world have begun to look into the possibilities of implementing blockchain payment system to reduce the costs for all partners involved in the value chain because blockchain payments are faster and more efficient. Apart from reducing the costs, which could benefit passengers, other advantages include greater transaction speed, resilience, and protection from fraud.

5. 3 DIMENSIONAL SCANNERS

High-definition, three-dimensional CT scans of luggage may soon replace static X-ray images at airports as part of a wave of new technology designed to speed up security lanes while improving detection of weapons and explosives.

While CT scans have been used for the past 10 years, the new machines are smaller, more powerful and faster. And with travellers increasingly concerned with airport security, this new tech gives security personnel a tool for keeping travellers safe while on the move.

Modern technological innovations in air travel are slowly coming to India and we at AirWhizz are continuously trying to implement it and bring it to you as a passenger. From real-time flight updates to providing information about airports and airlines, we help you plan your air travel all the way.

Flying Paperless Is About To Become A Reality In India!

Over the past few years, the number of passengers flying In India has increased and airports are finding smarter and innovative ways to deal with increased passenger traffic.
In a move counter this situation, air transport IT and communications service provider SITA is going to help India lead the way in biometric air travels.

According to Maneesh Jaikrishna, SITA Vice President – Indian Subcontinent, Eastern and Southern Africa, the SITA will deliver a seamless biometric experience across all airlines and airports (Domestic and International) in India by linking the Aadhar Biometric system with SITA’s Smart Path Technology.

Elaborating on the concept he said, the biometric identification cards and foreign passports of the citizens will be linked to the databases of airports, airlines and other stakeholders. This will make the passengers flying experience more consistent and secure during the journey. This will allow passengers to use their biometric identity, no matter where they travel.

In addition to the biometric air travel experience, SITA has also provided a solution for secure and smart baggage handling at the airports. The Airports Authority Of India(AAI) will implement the SITA’s baggage management solution “BagManager” at 15 Indian Airports to improve the baggage handling operations. BagManager was first implemented at the Kolkata and Chennai airports back in 2015.

According to Mr Jaikrishna “Soon, 15 airports in India will start getting real-time information on the status of passengers’ baggage, which will significantly reduce the chances of baggage mishandling.”

The 15 airports where “BagManager” will be implemented are – Thiruvananthapuram, Calicut, Mangalore, Tirupati, Chennai, Madurai, Kolkata, Goa, Lucknow, Jaipur, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Trichy and Ahmedabad.

The paperless initiative is being adopted all over the world, and we at AirWhizz, are continuously working towards implementing it in India because we believe that flying paperless is the future of air travel.

8 Ways in which Flying has Improved in India

Taking a domestic flight for an average Indian was a momentous occasion when the concept of flying was introduced at the start of the century.

In the 90s you had to plan your air travel in advance, air tickets were very expensive and although there were a few private airlines available for the passenger, Air India was the undisputed leader in the domestic aviation market.

But things have changed over the past decade-and-a-half! Millions of Indians board a flight to travel within the country or abroad every single day. There seven domestic airlines and several other regional carriers ready to serve air travellers in India.

There is no doubt aviation has changed for the better in India and here’s how!

1.More Airlines Means More Options

Air India’s monopoly over Indian skies is a thing of the past! In the last two decades or so there has many airline carriers have been introduced to the Indian travellers. Other than National airlines (IndiGo, Spice-jet, GoAir, Air Deccan etc) the Indian aviation market can boast of reputed international airlines such as Emirates, AirAsia, British Airways and many more.

2.Competitive Ticket Prices

In 2003-2004 India’s first low-cost airline Air Deccan (who later launched “one-rupee” fares to increase aircraft loads) was introduced, opening a world of possibilities and opportunities to travellers in India. Other low-cost carriers soon entered the market.
According to the Minister of State Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha “These days, passengers spend only Rs. 5 per kilometer on air travel from Indore to Delhi. But if you take an autorickshaw in this city, then you need to spend a relatively higher price of Rs. 8-10 per kilometer.”

3. Value for Money Services

You now get the service you pay for! Fly with an exclusive airline and you can expect luxury with delicious food, wines and VIP treatment among other advantages.
Today you have the choice to pay for a seat of your choice or how much luggage you want to carry. You don’t want to eat onboard? No problem, it is no longer part of your ticket cost.
Airlines serve you exactly the services you want and you no longer need to pay for something you don’t need when you fly.

4. Mobile Connectivity & Inflight Wi-fi

This is a new service which has recently been introduced in India.
The TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has issued recommendations that will soon allow airlines to provide in-flight internet and permit mobile services above the altitude of 3000 meters. However, it is up to the airlines how they choose to implement the services and at what costs if any.

5.Next Generation Aircrafts

New age airplanes such as Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A350 XWB are designed to endure high pressure when flying in the air.
These aircrafts can endure almost 2000 times more pressure than its predecessors which means more oxygen for your lungs, more moisture within the cabin and a more comfortable flight.

6.More Non-Stop Flights

New generation aircraft are bringing the world together with longer non-stop flights.
With more and more passengers wanting to explore new destinations and airline tickets becoming cheaper airlines have upped their game by increasing the number of flights, their frequency and the routes they travel to.

7.Technology & The Internet of Things(IoT)

Gone are the days when you had to stand in long queues for check-in, go to the helpdesk at the airport for all the information, manual security checks etc. With innovation in technology and the introduction of the internet of things, passengers can dash through the airport without any hassle.
Smartphones these days allow passengers to access all their flight info, check-in, track their flight and plan the entire itinerary with just a few clicks.

8.Improved Airport Infrastructure

The rise in the number of passengers travelling to and from airports in has resulted in a complete makeover of the airport infrastructure in India. Most modern airports in India can compete with the best airports in the world.
Other than the design and beauty, airports have become a place where passengers can spend time by eating, shopping and being entertained. Services like lounges, spas, sleep pods and airport hotels passengers are comfortable while they wait for their flight.

The aviation industry in India and the world is constantly evolving and with it,  are related services and technology that enhance the passenger experience. AirWhizz is a great example of such technological innovation. It is a one of its kind airport assistant app in India that helps passengers #flystressfree with services such as real-time flight updates and information, booking cabs from the airport, getting access to and information on different airport lounges and restaurants at your fingertips.
