2018 seems to be the perfect year for travel. The new year brings with it plenty of long weekends that will give you ample amount of time to tick the best places off your bucket list. 

We have taken the liberty to suggest the best weekend “Jet-aways”  for you! For the uninitiated, a “jet-away” is a weekend getaway you can fly to!  

Here’s a list of all the long weekends in 2018 and where you can fly to. So start planning and jet around the country! 

January 

Long weekend: January 26-28 

Occasion: Republic Day 
Place to visit: Auli 
Nearest airport: Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun. 

Why?  

The best time to visit Auli is from November to March. Since it is winter the place will be surrounded by snow-capped mountains where you can enjoy skiing and other adventure activities. Head to this surreal place to kick-start your new year on a happy note.  

February 

Long weekend: February 10-13

Occasion: Maha Shivratri 
Place to visit: Jaisalmer 
Nearest airport: Jaisalmer Airport 

Why? 

With summer yet to arrive, Jaisalmer is the perfect place to visit in February. It will have the most pleasant weather at that time of the year. You can visit the golden sand dunes and its rich heritage and culture without worrying about the scorching heat.

March 

Long weekend: March 1-4 

Occasion: Holi 
Place to visit: Goa 
Nearest airport: Goa International Airport (Dabolim Airport) 

Why? 

Words fall short to describe Goa. This is one place that can be enjoyed by one and all. If you are a party animal there is no better place than Goa to be in. And if you seek peace and calm, Goa has exquisite beaches and a serene natural beauty that will act as a tranquiliser for your restless mind. 

April 

Long weekend: March 29-April 1 

Occasion: Mahavir Jayanti & Good Friday 
Place to visit: Andaman & Nicobar Islands 
Nearest airport: Veer Savarkar International Airport (Port Blair Airport) 

Why? 

Hosting one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, it is the calmest and relaxing place to visit. The glistening golden sand and mystical waves of the ocean make the perfect ambience for a leisure holiday. And if you want to try your hands on some startling adventure, you might as well try scuba diving and many other water sports that await you. 

Long weekend: April 27- May 1 

Occasion: Buddha Poornima 
Place to visit: Ladakh 
Nearest airport: Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, Leh Ladakh, India

Why? 

If you are an adventure enthusiast Ladakh has to be on your list. From trekking on the rocky mountain treks to camping in the wilderness, from whitewater river rafting to climbing the mighty mountains, you can do it all here. And once you are in Ladakh there is no other place that you’d rather be in.

 June 

Long weekend: June 15-17

Occasion: Id-ul-Fitr 
Place to visit: Sikkim 
Nearest airport: Pakyong Airport (New) 

Why? 

Gangtok is a perfect blend of modernity and traditions. WIth stupas and monasteries all around you will get to feel the Tibetan culture at its best. 

 August  

Long weekend: August 15-17 

Occasion: Independence Day & Parsi New Year 
Place to visit: Srinagar 
Nearest airport: Srinagar International Airport 

Why? 

At this time of the year, Srinagar is beaming with life. You can enjoy the actual beauty of this serene place as the whole valley will be covered in blossom.

Occasion: Id-ul-Zuha & First day of Onam

Why? 

If you are captivated by history, then Diu is the place to be. Infused with Portuguese history, it has a beautiful cathedral and a stunning fortress that will take your breath away.

Why? 

Sit back and enjoy a hot steaming cup of tea right from the garden outside. Yes, Munnar is India’s one of the largest tea-growing region and is surrounded by lush green tea plantation. This place is perfect for a relaxing getaway.

It is the only place in India to receive rain throughout the year. So if you love monsoon, don’t wait for it, just head to this amazing destination and be prepared to get one with nature.
