Your destination needs to be smartly chosen. Avoid extremely hot regions like Rajasthan that have the desert climate. Also, avoid places that require too much sightseeing as that could be really hectic on a hot summer day.
Goa, Kerala, Pondicherry are also quite hot but the advantage of beach destinations is that the sea will cool you off.. Hill stations are the best in summer because it is cooler there and you can actually take a few days off from the scorching heat of the sun and lose yourself amidst the hills.
It is also a great idea to choose a place which has a lot of greenery, like national parks or forests. It may be humid there, but truly speaking the greenery will win your heart and rejuvenate your soul in any season of the year.

Watch what you wear:

Make sure you pack comfortable and weather appropriate clothes. When heading to a warm place, cool airy clothing in light fabrics is ideal. Avoid synthetic fabrics that don’t absorb well and stick to your body. Also remember light summer colors absorb less heat than dark shades. Avoid heat stroke by wearing a hat or scarf when you step out in the sun. Don’t forget your sunglasses to help shield your eyes from the harsh glare of the sun.
Needless to say, these do not apply if you are heading to a place where you can expect cold weather! If you are heading to the cooler temperatures of the mountains, pack warm clothing but still protect yourself from the sun, as daytime temperatures can still be quite warm.

Always stay hydrated:

You must always carry a bottle of water with you everywhere you go. It is very important to drink water in summer in order to prevent dehydration. Drinks like Gatorade and Electral help restore low body salt levels that can result from dehydration. Coconut water also works wonders in the summer and tastes delicious. Most shops sell bottled water that is safe for drinking or if you prefer you can carry a small bottle of filtered water with you and refill it at your convenience.

Eat the right food:

India has some delicious spicy and fried foods. Alas, these are best avoided in summer. Eat things that are cooling for your system and easy to digest. Fruits and vegetables with high water content like watermelon, cucumber, etc. are cooling and hydrating in the summer. When travelling it is always wise to eat from hygienic places and avoid heavy oily foods. Also, avoid dairy products as these can go bad in the summer heat and give you an upset stomach.

Take Care of your skin and body:

It is essential to apply sunscreen when you head out into the sun during summer. You need to follow a skin care regimen which will include washing your face, moisturizing day and night and wearing a high SPF sunscreen. Avoid wearing heavy makeup as this clogs your pores and prevents your skin from breathing. Another important tip is to use a deodorant instead of an antiperspirant as sweating is a natural process for the body to cool down and flush harmful toxins.

So there you have it, folks. You needn’t be daunted by a holiday in the summer. A few simple precautions and you could have the best time ever. Happy Travels!
